Jake's Homework Buddy

She colored more than the extra nuts.   I think there is a 4 and some 8's in there as well. :)
Jake loves school and he doesn't mind doing his homework.   Yesterday while we were doing his homework Kaci was sitting with us practicing her 4's and 8's.  Jake finished his worksheets and so we went to the living room to read his books.   I didn't pay much attention but I did tell him to put his homework in his back pack.   Pretty soon he is really upset and Kaci is crying.  I run to the kitchen to see what the problem was.  Trying hard to maintain composer I listened as Jake tells me with tears in his eyes that he is in so much trouble, Mrs. Larsen is going to be mad at him because his homework is not right and it is all his sisters fault.  I looked at it and said, Kaci why did you color on your brother's homework?   That is not nice and he is going to get a bad grade."   She stopped crying and with the most sincere look in her eyes and using her all famous Kaci voice she said, but mom he didn't finish coloring all of the nuts."    The worksheet was a number in the box and a grouping of nuts.  Jake was supposed to color in the amount of nuts that matched the number in the box.   Moral of the story when you finish your homework put it in your folder in your bag.    Your little sister loves you so much she will help you finish your homework!!!!  I did write Mrs.  Larsen a note explaining what happened hopefully she will see the humor in the situation!

Easter Weekend

Sunday was a beautiful day.  The sun was out and it felt like spring.  YEA!!!!  Kaci finally got to wear her dress and flip flops.  As we were packing to go to the desert she wanted to take her flip flops and dresses.  The boys told her she couldn't she had to wear her cowgirl cloths because the snakes would bite her toes.   So every morning she would get up and say I don't want to wear my cowgirl cloths I will just wear my pajamas and stay in the trailer.  Pretty soon we had her talked into putting on her boots and cloths.  She loved  playing  in the sand and on the rocks.

Aunt Jessica did a scavenger hunt for the kids The older kids liked it better than the egg hunt.  I think Kaci and Andrew would have had more fun with the egg hunt.     After the hunt we had dinner and packed up to come home.

Zeak thought he was in heaven Grandpa taught him to drive the 4-wheeler so when he wasn't on his horse you could find him on the 4-wheeler.    He loves the desert just like his dad and grandpa!
Jake and Madison loved playing on the rocks and found all kind of hide outs and houses to play in.
The kids were most excited to color easter eggs.  We forgot the vinegar luckily Debbie Stalling had some pickled eggs we stole vinegar from.  It did the job and we had fun.  Andrew loved his egg and wouldn't let go.  He held it most of the day.    We rolled the eggs down the rock and they enjoyed that.   Zeak was to big for this activity so he rode horses instead.  I beg to differ you are never to old to color easter eggs it is my favorite easter activity.

Friday morning we took a little road to Ameston Valley???  On the way back we got a flat tire.  My father-in-law  had a flat tire kit and so him, Dan , and Kevin Stallings were intent on making it work.   It took over and hour to work and then it didn't work so we changed it.  The next day they made it work.  Good thing I had a  good book with me.  I didn't mind being stranded for a while. The kids did really well considering.
Thursday night was our turn to provide dinner.    We made it just in time to get settled and start dinner.  Everyone loves Dutch oven pizza.  For some reason it was taking longer than normal.  It was worth the wait!   The best part was that the bottom was not burnt.  That is maybe my problem I always rush it to fast and it burns the bottom:)

Spring

I love spring and all it brings and represents, flowers, babies, a rebirth, new life for all.  How fitting that we celebrate Easter at this time of year. Since this is exactly what the Savior represents.      This year I didn't get my spring bulbs planted in the fall and didn't know really what the Bastians may have already planted so I saw these vases in Costco and couldn't resist.    Then for my birthday I bought a bunch of strawberries and raspberries with my gift certificate.  I planted them all but this one flat because it had lots of blossoms and a few strawberries starting.  So while it is snowing outside I have enjoyed spring inside and hopefully by the end of the week will have a handful of strawberries to eat.  I will have to beat Jake to the punch, do to the fact, that he is as excited about strawberries and flowers as me.   This morning I had to cut all of the dead flowers off  Kaci and Jake were really concerned.  I explained that they wont last forever and hopefully the sun will come out and we can enjoy the green grass and flowers outside.    Today the sun is out and it feels more like spring.   So here is to Spring, the Savior, and Life and all that it means to me and all of you.  Happy Easter Week however you celebrate!  May the colors of spring lift your spirits and touch our hearts.  Make us want to change for good and serve others.  For we truly are blessed and none of us our alone we all have trials and struggles, this is why we have family, friends, neighbors, and the Savior.

No Foolin'

CORT EZEKIEL WINN
7 lbs 5 oz
April 1st, 2009

Tonight we took a little road trip to Delta.   Brenda and Clay had their baby boy yesterday.  On the way over I wish I would have had a recorder.   Zeak started asking questions about cousins, aunts, uncles.  Just kids trying to figure out the family tree.  I answered all the questions and was pretty comfy with everything.  Then Zeak wanted to know when he would be able to rope with Cort.   He was so excited until he figured out that when Cort is his age (10) Zeak would be 20.  Then him and Jake started talking about being Uncles and Dads and what they would name their kids.  Zeak wants to name his kids Porter and Vincent.  Then they got really silly and I had to change the subject quick.    When we got to the hospital, Clay met us in the parking lot, I told Kaci to ask Uncle Clay if we  could see the baby.  I asked her if she was excite.  She said, Yes I Love Him."  I told her she hadn't even met him yet.  Clay said,  "she probably knows him better than the rest of us at this point."   So the post is suppose, to be about my new nephew not about my kids but, the pictures say it all!  The only thing I can say is, Cort you have some cousins who can't wait for you to grow up and rope with them.  Kaci and I we will keep you tiny and innocent as long as we can.  Welcome to the Family We Love You

Guns & Lipstick????

Yesterday Kaci got herself dressed.   I didn't worry to much until it was time to take Jake to school I said, "sweetie you cannot go out dressed like that."   She said, "sure I can I have my lipstick and my gun!"  Should I be worried????

Last Week

Our week started out with completing Zeaks science fair project.

Wed was steer weigh ins for the county fair. Zeak's steer was average weight. Jake's steer needs to eat a little more. But they are having fun and I got a little more involved this year. I have been better at taking pictures and last night when they got out I even went and helped Zeak get them back in. Dan was proud of me.

Thursday Zeak presented his science fair project to his class. He did a great job. Usually Zeak is so easy going he doesn't get nervous but he was really nervous. It was funny to see this side of him. You wouldn't think that someone who has no problem talking to anyone at any time would be scared.

Friday after the science fair we checked the boys out of school dropped Kaci off at Grandma Woodlands and headed to Salina. It was our 2nd Little Britches Rodeo for the year. Friday night Zeak had a rough night. He tied his goat pretty good but his roping was way off. So after freezing in the horse trailor all night he regrouped and had a much better day on Saturday. When I say we froze friday night I am not kidding Sat morning the truck themometer read 24 degrees. I told Dan if we are going to do this we need to work on a living quarter trailor. Enough wining and on to the real story. Zeak's first event was breakaway. He caught his time wasn's good enough to place but we caught wich set the pace for the rest of the day. His goats were ok we just need to work on getting off he is not comfortable getting off yet so that is going to be our focus for the next few weeks. Ribbon roping he was going for horns and if their would have been some he would have had a great time. To bad there were no horns. Team roping is our event it is what he lives for. He had a 8.20 +5 it was awesome and they took 2nd. That night we had a Jack Pot roping. Dan and Zeak caught every steer we just had some tuff luck on the heeling end Rachel and Zeak made it to the second round but had some tuff luck. Thanks for all of the fun this weekend. We do love to rodeo. Thanks Grandma & Grandpa for taking Kaci it was to cold and to long for her to be there. Although we really missed her being with us. Thanks to all of Zeaks fans that called to see how he did.

This week started off crazy. We got home from Salina and in bed about 1:30 am Sunday morning at 3:00 am we got a call that there had been a fire in Lake Shore. A building that Dan built for his Uncle Chris's chicken farm had burned down. So Sunday morning at nine Dan had a crew of 4 guys and they went to work. They only had about 48 hours to tear down and rebuild. This building was part of the processing plant and eveyday it was down it cost the Chicken Farm thousands of dollars. Dan was home last night about 6:00 this is the earliest I have seen him in two days but they did it. He said it is a miracle but non the less it was done and yesterday morning they started processing at 5:00 am. It is good to see that in this crazy world miracles still happen and their are still good people who are willing to serve others. Heres to a great week of miracles.
